AGATHONISI

Agathonisi is only 8 miles away from the beaches of Turkey and its surrounded by other smaller and inhabitant isles such as Kounelonisi, Katsagani, Neronisi and others….  Agathonisi (Agathos means good, kind, decent) was named after a virtuous priest, who was teaching at the beginning of our century, Father John Panagiotou.

It is the ideal place to escape. There is a small boat from Patmos and Leros and 40 rooms for rent, if you are planning on going for a holiday there.

ARKI

Beautiful islets that belong to Patmos are located 8 nautical miles from the port and south of Lipsi. Even on the biggest islet, among this group, there are only forty people approximately; that live there and most of them are fishermen. Small boats from Patmos and Lipsi dock at the port, which is well hidden near the rocks that protect the island from the strong winds. Tourist will see the old houses made of stones and painted with white brush.

The best beach is at Marathi, a small isle opposite Arki. This small island is connected daily with small boats from Patmos , Lipsi, and Leros. There are other beaches as well at Linari and Tiganakia.

Take the time to see the island’s environmental research center located at the Arki area. It will give you a chance to get acquainted with the fauna and flora special to the local sea and terrestrial ecosystems.

CHILIOMODI

The isle Chiliomodi is exactly opposite of the port of Patmos and it was donated by the Byzantine emperor Alexios Comnenus the first to St. Christodoulos. At Chiliomodi there is a hermitage dedicated to St. Panteleimon. According to a preserved document on the 10th of June 1599, a boat sagged at the shore, coming from Nisiros with seven people on board and four of them drowned. The three survivals went to St. Panteleimon and raised a banner. Some Patmians spotted them and they went to their rescue. A church, with cells, of St. Panteleimon has been built today, near the ruins of the hermitage and every year on the 27th of July, a celebration takes place to honor him.
